Oxnard Police Seek Suspect in Fatal Shooting of 19-Year-Old
Police on Saturday were searching for the person who fatally shot a 19-year-old man at the corner of Bryce Canyon Avenue and Saviers Road.
Ruben Morales Ambriz died of a gunshot wound to the head at St. John’s Regional Medical Center on Friday, after a 9 p.m. shooting in a graffiti-tagged area, which neighbors say is rife with gangs.
“People are always fighting around here,” said 19-year-old Efraim Martinez, a nurse’s aide who said he was at church during the shooting.
Martinez pointed to the rear window of his uncle’s pickup truck, which had been shattered by bullets from the shooting.
Several residents called police Friday to report shots fired near the 100 block of Bryce Canyon Avenue. As officers were checking out the scene, they received word from the hospital that the victim was there. Police said witnesses could not provide a description of the suspect.
Anyone with details is encouraged to call Det. Tim Lumas at 385-7760.
