‘Shocked’ Harris Recalled

Right-hander Pep Harris was recalled from triple-A Vancouver Monday, but was not available to pitch Monday night. Harris pitched four innings to earn a save Sunday in a 12-7 victory over the Iowa Cubs.

“We decided to make the move last night and then we looked up and saw he pitched four innings,” Manager Terry Collins said. “We probably would’ve waited a day had we known he pitched.”

Harris, who had a horrible spring because of biceps tendinitis and began the season on the disabled list, said he was “pretty shocked to get the call.”

“I knew I’d get the call sometime, but I thought everyone was pitching pretty good, so I figured I’d have to be patient,” he said. “I’ve been pitching well, though. I’ve got my movement on my fastball and I’m getting my ground-ball outs.”

Last year, Harris was 5-4 with a 3.62 earned-run average and was second among Angel relievers in innings pitched and appearances, but he struggled in the spring because of the injury.

Left-hander Rich Robertson was optioned to Vancouver to make room on the roster for Harris.

Chuck Finley, who was struck just above his left elbow with a line drive Saturday, played six minutes of catch Monday and said his arm felt fine.

Finley is scheduled to play catch again today and then throw on the side Wednesday. If he remains pain free, he could start Friday night against Detroit.
