Hart, Nordhoff Survive Regionals

Hart and Nordhoff highs on Monday advanced to the Southern Section golf championships.

Nordhoff shot 386 to finish in third place in the Northern Regional at San Luis Obispo Country Club and advance to the section tournament for the first time in school history.

Jeff Coburn shot a one-over-par 73 to pace the Rangers, runners-up to Calabasas in the Frontier League.

Westlake (391), Calabasas (400), Notre Dame (403) and Alemany (405), champions of their respective leagues, failed to finish in the top four and didn’t advance. Justin Ohye of Calabasas shot one-under-par 71, low individual score in the tournament.

Hart shot 396 to finish in third place in the Western Regional at Industry Hills Golf Course in the City of Industry. Ryan Wyman and Charlie Smith led the Indians by shooting five-over-par 77. Peninsula (389) won the regional.

SOFTBALL

Thousand Oaks 6, Hart 0--Kim Martin (6-3) pitched a perfect game without striking out any batters for the 10th-ranked Lancers (15-7-1) in a nonleague contest at fifth-ranked Hart (17-6).

Martin induced 13 groundouts, including eight to shortstop Kristin Combe.

Shelly Teverbaugh made a diving catch in center field in the first inning and second baseman Colleen Spencer stabbed a line drive in the second.

Lacey Cope drove in two runs with two hits for the Lancers.

Camarillo 10, Channel Islands 0--Kathryn Nevard (7-4) pitched a five-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts for Camarillo (16-5, 9-3) in a Marmonte League game.

Simi Valley 3, Royal 0--Dawn Carifi had a run-scoring single for Simi Valley (22-5, 9-3) in a Marmonte League game at Royal. Lori Tandy (11-1) pitched a three-hitter with one strikeout.

Chaminade 2, Notre Dame 1--Amanda Pearlman’s one-out bloop single drove in Courtney Whale with the winning run in the top of the 10th for Chaminade (17-7-1, 8-0) in a Mission League game at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park.

Palmdale 2, Quartz Hill 0--Mikki Goldwater (16-4) threw a five-hitter for Palmdale (18-7, 6-2) in a Golden League game.

Highland 14, Lancaster 5--Michelle Wintermute had a two-run home run and a run-scoring double for Highland (20-5, 6-2) in a Golden League game at Lancaster (5-13, 3-5).

Village Christian 3, L.A. Baptist 0--Jaclyn Aranda (20-1) threw a two-hitter to help the host Crusaders (21-2, 6-0) clinch their fourth consecutive Alpha League title.

Fillmore 1, Oak Park 0--Naomi Qualls pitched a perfect game and struck out four in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.
