Dishwasher-Safe Tablecloth

If these charming serving pieces echo the look of picnic tablecloth fabric, it’s because they are fabric, laminated to make them usable. There are also matching real napkins.

Poppy Plaid laminated bowls, $7 to $30; laminated tray, $24; and fabric napkins, $5; from Victory Furniture, Los Angeles, Anaheim Patio Living and Gibson’s, Fountain Valley.

A Roof of Wine’s Own

When the weather’s nice, you always ask yourself why anybody would ever dine indoors--until you’re reminded that, without a roof over them, glasses collect leaves, insects and who knows what else. You could cover them with napkins, but they’re likely to get dislodged by the wind. What you need are Beverage Bonnets: ultra-Victorian lace doilies weighted down with beads around the hem to keep them in place.

Cake Hauler

This may look like a picnic basket and could probably serve as one, but it’s really for carrying cakes. It has two particularly attractive features (apart from the heart-shaped hole in the lid): a waterproof bottom and a little table that fits inside so you can carry two layers of goodies.

Bradford Cake Basket, about $60, from Blue Hills Gift Shop, Whittier, and Utopia, Studio City.

Hazelnuts at the Ready

More than most nuts, hazelnuts require roasting to bring out their flavor. Here are some that are already roasted--and at a good price.

Roasted Hazelnuts, 1 pound for $7.50, from HomeChef, Pasadena.
