A local petroleum refining company donated $50,000 Tuesday to an after-school 4-H program at a public housing project.

The donation from Tosco Refining Co. includes $40,000 to fund the program at Dana Strand Village for one year and $10,000 to hire three high school students as part-time assistants. The Dana Strand program is one of 20 in Los Angeles aimed at providing inner-city children from ages 7 to 13 with a 4-H program that emphasizes academic tutoring and community service.
