Anti-Crime Billboards Officially Unveiled

Officials in Santa Ana unveiled the first of 75 anti-crime billboards Tuesday that will be placed in bus shelters around Orange County. The billboards, which picture a police officer flanked by several young children, declare them a “winning team.” And the words at the bottom of the posters state simply the concept officials are trying to promote: community-oriented policing.

The campaign is the latest sparked by businessman and former Santa Ana police officer Robert Acosta, who has also placed anti-graffiti ads and other anti-crime messages on billboards and bus shelters in the county. Acosta said the messages and the picture are meant to portray a positive image of police working closely with residents.

“We are trying to convey that we all need to work together to fight crime,” Acosta said.
