El Nino is still with us, new satellite data show.

The most recent image taken by NASA’s TOPEX/Poseidon satellite, released earlier this week, shows that the Pacific has not yet fully recovered from this record El Nino event. The image shows that the remnants of the disruptive pool of unusually warm Pacific Ocean water, commonly referred to as El Nino, are now north of the equator.

Sea surface temperatures, as measured by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, are still above normal throughout the tropical Pacific and are expected to remain that way through the spring. The oceanic agency has extended an advisory indicating that the weather conditions that have strongly affected much of the United States and the world this year are expected to continue through the spring.
