Rain again wreaked havoc on the softball schedule as teams try to complete the season before playoff pairings are determined this weekend.

The El Modena-Foothill game, which will decide the Century League champion, was postponed for the second time. It will be played at 5 p.m. today at Foothill. Century League athletic directors decided Wednesday to give up on completing the season for the other teams, meaning no team will have played more than eight league games.

Seventh-ranked El Modena upset fourth-ranked Foothill, 6-3, in their last meeting and holds a one-game lead over the Knights. It was Foothill’s second league loss in four years, and its first since losing to Villa Park in 1995.

Several teams were using Wednesday to make up games, including Los Alamitos-Fountain Valley, which was postponed for the second time. Those teams have an interesting tripleheader Friday. Los Alamitos plays at Edison at 10 a.m., plays at Fountain Valley at 1 p.m., and then Fountain Valley plays at Huntington Beach at 4 p.m.

Los Alamitos and Fountain Valley are tied for second in the Sunset League.

Irvine will play a doubleheader today against two Sea View League opponents. The fifth-ranked Vaqueros will play at Newport Harbor at 3 p.m. and immediately after the game will get on a bus and travel to Alton Park in Irvine to play third-ranked Woodbridge at 7:30 p.m.

The Sea View League’s fourth-place team, ninth-ranked Santa Margarita, needs a victory today over third-place (and eighth-ranked) El Toro to get into the playoffs. Santa Margarita’s home game against Woodbridge, originally scheduled for Tuesday, will be played Friday.
