7 Area Squads Win Drill Team Honors
Drill teams from seven Valley area elementary schools were among the top performers at the 7th annual Six Flags Magic Mountain Elementary Drill Team competition.
Pomelo Drive Elementary School in West Hills placed first in the large dance category and won the sweepstakes award, given to the best squad competing with 15or more girls.
Placing third in the large dance category was Strathern Street Elementary School in North Hollywood, which had tied for first place with Pomelo at a May 9 Los Angeles Unified School District competition.
A squad from Encino Elementary School placed fourth in the large military category.
High scorers among squads with fewer than 15 members were Hart Street Elementary School in Canoga Park, Kittridge Street Elementary School in Van Nuys and Valley Presbyterian School in North Hills, which placed first through third respectively in the small songleaders category. Winnetka Avenue Elementary School in Canoga Park placed second in small dance.
