Local charities received a financial boost from the city last week in the form of $1.1 million in federal community development grants.

The City Council distributed the Department of Housing and Urban Development funds to groups that were required to show, among other things, that they would use the money to help the needy.

Agencies receiving grants include Adult Day Health Care Center; Irvine Temporary Housing; Irvine Children’s Fund; Assistance League of Irvine’s Operation School Bell; the Irvine Child Development Center; the Dayle McIntosh Center for the Disabled; Human Options; Irvine Meals on Wheels; Olive Crest; Orange County Council on Aging; the CSP Youth Shelter and the city’s Community Service Department.
