The Indiana men’s soccer team must be sick of seeing McKinley Tennyson Jr.

Tennyson, who scored the game-winner in UCLA’s triple-overtime victory over the Hoosiers in the NCAA semifinals last season, had a goal and an assist as UCLA knocked off No. 1 Indiana, 2-1, Sunday before 3,155 at UCLA’s North Athletic Field to win the Pacific Soccer Classic.

The Bruins (13-2), ranked third in the nation, broke a 1-1 tie when Tennyson, a junior, set up senior Seth George, who beat Indiana goalkeeper T.J. Hanning in the 50th minute.

Indiana is 16-2.

Tennyson, playing his first game in two weeks because of injuries, scored in the 37th minute to give UCLA a 1-0 lead.

“This was a really big game for me coming off all my injuries,” Tennyson said. “I was just trying to make the most of the time I was given.”

George was named offensive most valuable player of the classic, which UCLA has won 10 times in 14 years.

UCLA’s Carlos Bocanegra shared defensive most valuable player with Indiana’s Nick Garcia. Tennyson and Pete Vagenas also made the all-tournament team for the Bruins.

UCLA, Washington and Cal State Fullerton all have one loss in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

UCLA Coach Sigi Schmid hopes this tournament will be a boost for his team, much like it was last year.

“After our loss to Fullerton, we decided that we needed to establish ourselves in our tournament,” he said. “It’s kind of just like last season when we lost to Fullerton and then beat Duke in the tournament.”
