Boy Finds Couple Shot to Death in Parked Car

Police are investigating the shooting deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found Monday morning in a car parked on a residential street.

An elementary school student noticed the couple about 7 a.m. on his way to class, tried to rouse them and then alerted a nearby adult, who called police.

Detective Frank Bishop, a homicide investigator with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Station, said the pair in the 1995 Nissan Maxima had been shot. Police spokesman Sgt. Willie Guerrero said the engine was still running when the bodies were discovered in the car on Fenton Avenue, and no gun was found at the scene.

Neighbors told police they heard multiple gunshots and a car door slam early Monday morning.

The exterior of the car showed no signs of being the target of gunfire, and the windows were rolled up, indicating the couple may have been shot by someone inside the car, according to Lt. Rick Papke, detective commander of the Foothill Station.

Police identified the victims as Victor Torres Muniz, 26, of Sylmar; and Angela Gudino, 23, of Panorama City.

Muniz was a suspected gang member, which could be a factor in the killings, Bishop said, although police have no suspects.
