‘Bird’ Leaves Los Feliz Coop

Actor-director Forest Whitaker and his wife, model-actress Keisha Nash, have sold their Los Feliz home for slightly more than $1 million, and they have moved to a bigger house in a nearby community.

They needed more space because they have four children.

Whitaker, 37, is finishing shooting “Ghost Dog,” a spiritual gangster movie in which he stars. Earlier this year, he directed “Hope Floats.” He also directed “Waiting to Exhale” (1995) and appeared in “Phenomenon” (1996), “Species” (1995) and “Blown Away” (1994), in which he met Nash, 24, who played his girlfriend. He also won a Cannes best actor award for his starring role as jazz legend Charlie Parker in Clint Eastwood’s “Bird” (1988).

The Los Feliz home, which Whitaker bought five years ago, was sold to Leslie Charleson, who plays Dr. Monica Quartermaine on “General Hospital.” She moved up from a two-bedroom 1,900-square-foot house nearby.

Whitaker’s former home has four bedrooms, an office, basement, pool and city views. Built in the early 1940s, the gated 3,800-square-foot home is traditional-colonial in style.

Carla Fagan of John Aaroe & Associates, Beverly Hills, had the listing, and Joanne Williams, in the John Aaroe Los Feliz office, represented the buyer.

Jimmy Iovine, co-founder and chairman of Interscope Records, and his author wife, Vicki, have listed their Malibu home at $6.9 million. She wrote “The Girlfriends’ Guides” to pregnancy and motherhood. Her fourth book, on toddlers, will be published in December.

The Iovines are moving to be closer to his work. “The West Coast music business is on fire,” she said, “and his office is in Westwood. I wanted to be sure the commute doesn’t kill him. Besides, we’re excited to be part of his business. We entertain a lot at home.”

To be near Westwood, the music entrepreneur, 45, and his wife bought a house in Holmby Hills in April for $11.5 million. They’re now doing some seismic work on it “while staying true to its architecture,” she said. The house was designed by Wallace Neff in 1937.

The Iovines built their Malibu house in 1990, before they had all four of their children, but the six-bedroom nearly 12,000-square-foot house, on about three acres, has easily accommodated the family, she said. The ocean-view home has a fenced-in play area, two family rooms, a children’s garden, air-conditioned and heated dog houses, a pool, sophisticated sound system, gym, yoga room, screening room and office, which she uses.

Jenilee Harrison, a familiar infomercial face who played Jamie Ewing Barnes on “Dallas” (1984-91) and Cindy Snow on “Three’s Company,” and her husband, Bruce Oppenheim, have completed a $1.1-million renovation and expansion of their Tarzana home. Oppenheim, a chiropractor to the stars, was once married to actress Cybill Shepherd.

The Tarzana home, a tennis-court estate on about an acre, was built in the 1920s. When Harrison, 39, and Oppenheim, 48, bought it in 1995 for $875,000, it had four bedrooms, a maid’s room and a guest house in about 5,000 square feet.

Now it is about 10,000 square feet with a new dining room, kitchen, 2,000-square-foot guest house, wine cellar, caretaker’s cottage and pool. The house has a federal architectural style reminiscent of Monticello.

Mark Odell, designer and architectural consultant with OPI International in Los Angeles, oversaw the project. Harrison’s brother, Nevin Harrison of Geary Family Real Estate in Sherman Oaks, represented the actress and her husband in their purchase.

A Beverly Hills home once owned for nine years by actor Michael Caine and his wife, Shakira, and built by Woolworth dime-store heiress Barbara Hutton for her only child, Lance Reventlow, has been listed at $5.9 million.

The house was built in 1956 in the shape of an L for Lance. He was killed at 36 in a 1972 plane crash. The house had several owners before the Caines bought it in 1978.

When the Caines owned it, the house had an indoor-outdoor pool. The indoor part of the pool was turned into a spa by the current owner, a businessman who bought the house from the Caines one week after the stock-market crash of 1987.

The 10,000-square-foot home also has seven bedrooms, 9 1/2 baths, a tennis court, a two-bedroom guest house and staff quarters. The house, on 2 1/2 acres, also has a view spanning from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica.

A Bel-Air home that once belonged to Sonny and Cher is being rented this month for a two-day shoot at a cost of $20,000 for producer Larry Thompson’s ABC movie “And the Beat Goes On: The Sonny & Cher Story,” expected to air in March.

The seven-bedroom 9,000-square-foot house was built in 1929 and was owned, at various times, by actor Tony Curtis and Hustler publisher Larry Flynt as well as by Sonny and Cher.

The house is listed with Victoria Lockwood of Fred Sands Estates at $7.9 million.
