Goodwill Welcomes Your Unwanted Stuff
Hoping to top last year’s 2 1/2 truckloads of donations, Cal State Northridge and Goodwill Industries will team up again to collect household discards from now until Dec. 13 for the annual holiday donation drive.
For more than five years, a trailer has been set up at the Cal State Northridge campus where attendants from Goodwill Industries accept almost any item normally thrown away. However, large appliances, such as refrigerators and stoves, will not be accepted.
The goods, including clothing, toys, books, furniture and small appliances, are refurbished and distributed to Goodwill thrift stores for sale. Proceeds are used to fund job training and rehabilitation programs for participants with physical and developmental disabilities.
“It’s an ongoing thing and it’s been very successful. We have a lot of community participation,” said Cyndi Signett of the University Recycling Program at Cal State Northridge, one of the co-sponsors of the drive.
The trailer will be set up in Student Lot T at Lassen Street and Lindley Avenue. Tax-deductible receipts for the donations will be issued at the site.
For information about specific donations and limitations on large items, call Goodwill Industries at (818) 782-2520.
