L.A. Philharmonic Changes Programs
Los Angeles Philharmonic music director Esa-Pekka Salonen has reconfigured the originally scheduled program of this weekend’s subscription series at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
The agenda now lists the U.S. premiere of composer Salonen’s overture-like “Gambit” and a special “Filmharmonic” presentation of the 70-minute silent film classic from 1928 “The Wind,” to be accompanied by four pieces by Jan Sibelius. “The Wind,” directed by Victor Seastrom and starring Lillian Gish, will be projected in synchronization with orchestral performances of “En Saga,” “The Oceanides,” “Nightride and Sunrise” and incidental music to “The Tempest.” Salonen and director Peter Sellars conceived the presentation. The programs repeat through Sunday.
