Tunzi Helps OCC Win Fifth in a Row in Golf
Orange Coast won its fifth consecutive match, defeating Saddleback, 364-381, in nonconference women’s golf Wednesday at Dove Canyon.
Jennifer Tunzi led Orange Coast (11-3) with a nine-over-par 80. Maricela Dietrick finished third for the Pirates with an 89.
Saddleback was led by Selby Schriber with an 81.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s water polo:
Cypress 11, Palomar 4--Sophomore Steve Mitzen had 18 saves and Lance Hoffman scored six goals to lead host Cypress (11-5, 2-2). Palomar is 9-10, 1-3.
Grossmont 14, Orange Coast 4--Sean Scott’s two-pointer in the first quarter broke a 2-2 tie, leading visiting and first-place Grossmont (14-3-1, 4-0). Giancarlo led Grossmont with four goals.
Carter Weir and Luke Alvarado each scored two goals for Orange Coast (6-9, 1-3).
Saddleback 21, Santa Ana 7--Dennis Connolly scored five goals to lead visiting Saddleback (12-5, 3-1).
Ivan Hernandez led Santa Ana (4-10, 0-3) with four goals.
In South Coast Conference women’s water polo:
Golden West 25, Cerritos 2--Julia Wagner scored five goals and Melody Warren added four for Golden West (15-0, 3-0), the top-ranked team in the state.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s water polo:
Orange Coast 7, Grossmont 2--Jackie Tran scored a two-pointer and Shakiba Fimbres and Nerissa Reidenbaugh each scored one in the fourth quarter to lead Orange Coast (15-1, 4-0).
Palomar 13, Cypress 3--Kelly Falcone scored six goals to lead visiting Palomar (8-4, 2-2).
Cypress is 9-6, 1-3.
Saddleback 20, Santa Ana 5--Brianna Foulds scored eight goals and Julie Egus added five to lead visiting Saddleback (9-5, 2-2).
Jenny Warren and Kristin Thompson each scored two goals for Santa Ana (2-6, 0-4).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Cypress 0--Lori Daedelow had 14 kills as Golden West won, 15-10, 15-3, 16-14.
In South Coast Conference wrestling:
Cerritos 23, Golden West 21--Heavyweight Rahmani Masoud pinned Beau Van Winkle of Golden West in 2 minutes 9 seconds to give Cerritos the victory. Jesse Standlea, at 174 pounds, won 13-9 for Golden West and teammate Eric Padilla won his 184-pound match against Driml Ajbort, 7-5.
