An 18-year-old man was discharged from a hospital Monday after being shot in the neck while an alleged accomplice spray-painted over a rival gang tag in South-Central Los Angeles, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The youth, who was shot while inside a car, was treated and released, said White Memorial Medical Center spokeswoman Beth Powis.

The alleged tagger was arrested after he dropped off the wounded youth and another passenger who also was wounded. The driver had been pursued by LAPD officers from 21st Street and Central Avenue, the location of the shooting, said Sgt. Larry Maillet of Newton Division.

The second wounded passenger, a 21-year-old man, was shot in the arm, but he refused treatment and signed himself out of the hospital Sunday against medical advice, said Powis.

A fourth person who was also in the car was released by authorities.

Sgt. William Baird said that Newton Division detectives were investigating the case.
