UCLA MEN’S SOCCER

* County connections: Ryan Futagaki of Fountain Valley and Seth George and Tim Pierce of Santa Margarita

* Worth noting: George, a senior forward, was named a second-team All-American after helping the Bruins win the 1997 national title. He scored both goals in UCLA’s 2-0 victory over Virginia in the final. Futagaki and Pierce are freshmen.

* Appearing locally: UCLA will play at UC Irvine Oct. 16 and at Fullerton Oct. 18.

UCLA WOMEN’S SOCCER

* County connections: Sommmer Hammound and Liz Willemse of Los Alamitos

* Worth noting: Hammound was named Pac-10 freshman of the year last season.

* Appearing locally: UCLA will play at UC Irvine Sept. 30.

USC WOMEN’S SOCCER

* County connections: Susie Mora and Erica De Vitis of Santa Margarita, Megan Orach of Marina, Kim Abbamonto of Capistrano Valley, Katie Ticehurst of Mater Dei, Meghan Reppe of Villa Park, Andrea Warner of Dana Hills, Brittany Savelkoul of Los Alamitos and Liane Nakano of Fountain Valley.

* Worth noting: USC lost a key player recently when forward Kaylee Whitfield of El Modena tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. Whitfield, who had rebounded after tearing the ACL in her right knee this spring, will miss the season.

* Appearing locally: USC will play at Cal State Fullerton Oct. 1 and UC Irvine Oct. 4.
