1997 Chateau de La Negly “Cuvee de la Cote”, Languedoc. (About $8)

Another good little country wine from the Coteaux de Languedoc appellation, Chateau de la Negly’s “Cuvee de la Cote” is a blend of old-vine Carignan with Grenache Noir, Tempranillo and Syrah. Aged in French oak, it is an inky purple wine with tremendous concentration, tasting of black plums, blackberries and smoke. In short, this is an irresistible buy for drinking now and in the coming season, perfect for fall’s braises and stews or hearty bistro fare.
