Lancaster Roughs Up Giants’ Gardner

The Lancaster JetHawks scored early against right-hander Mark Gardner, the opening-day starter for the San Francisco Giants, and went on to defeat the San Jose Giants, 9-5, in a California League game Wednesday night in San Jose.

Gardner, who made a rehabilitation start, left with the score tied, 4-4, after reaching his pitch limit in the fourth inning. He allowed four runs and six hits, striking out six and walking one.

Joel Ramirez had two hits and three runs batted in, and Craig Kuzmic had three hits and two RBIs for the JetHawks (9-11).
