South and North Korea have agreed to resume tourism trips by South Koreans to the communist North on Aug. 5, Seoul state radio reported. The two countries, which are technically still at war, agreed to resume the trips under improved safety arrangements, said the state Korean Broadcasting System, or KBS, quoting government officials. The trips were suspended in June after a tourist was detained in the North, allegedly for preaching defection. Unification Ministry officials declined to confirm the report. A ministry spokesman said an official announcement would be made today. KBS said the two Koreas had agreed that any tourist found to be in violation of North Korean law or tourism regulations would be sent back immediately.
