Taylor Winds Up Third in 400 Free Junior Final
Travis Taylor, a Crescenta Valley High senior, finished third in the Speedo Junior Championships West boys’ 400-meter freestyle race Friday at Cal State Bakersfield.
Taylor timed 4:03.67. He finished sixth in the 1,500-meter freestyle, in which he timed 16:15.23 on Saturday night, and he anchored Rose Bowl Aquatics’ 800-free relay team, which included Falcon junior William Ban, and finished sixth in 7:55.78.
Jason Weber, a Westlake High graduate from Conejo Simi Aquatics, placed fourth in the boys’ 100-meter backstroke in 59.10.
Alyssa Chin, a La Canada High junior, finished fourth in the girls’ 100 backstroke in 1:06.08.
TENNIS
* Bob Bryan of Camarillo won his opening match Saturday at the Pan American Games, beating Felix Insaurralde of Paraguay, 6-1, 6-1.
TRACK AND FIELD
* Dominique Arnold of Northridge finished fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 13.45 seconds at the Pan American Games on Friday.
Anier Garcia of Cuba won the event in 13.17 and Yunier Hernandez of Cuba was second in 13.24. American Eugene Swift was third in 13.41.
MISCELLANY
* A four-man scramble golf tournament to benefit College of the Canyons baseball will be held Aug. 23 at Valencia Country Club.
Cost is $200 per person.
