Leno Versus Letterman
Your article comparing Jay Leno vs. David Letterman missed the most obvious difference: their individual comic styles (“It’s Getting Darker for Dave’s ‘Late Show,’ ” by Paul Farhi, Aug. 16).
Leno, the former “comic’s comic” who latched onto Hollywood’s ego-feeding machine, has changed from clever, intelligent observations to easy, mean-spirited jabs at the popular target-of-the-minute. Letterman has remained true to his quirky, skewed, outsider’s brand of humor.
And while the numbers may be with Leno, I’m content to know I’m watching the funnier show, by far. If CBS wants Dave to play to older audiences, they should just leave him on--we’re getting there!
