MLS ROUNDUP : D.C. United Beats Rapids

Ben Olsen slipped behind the defense 16 minutes into the game and scored to give D.C. United a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids before 14,982 at Denver on Saturday night.

The game was a showdown of MLS conference leaders with United (19-7) leading the East and Colorado (16-8) ahead in the West.

Colorado’s Jorge Dely Valdes had a goal disallowed with four minutes to play after the referee whistled Marcelo Balboa for an off-the-ball foul.

The lone goal came when United beat Colorado’s offside trap. Jamie Moreno played back for Geoff Aunger on the right before looping the ball behind the Rapids’ back line. Olsen slipped in and beat the trap.

Chicago 2, New England 1--Roman Kosecki and Peter Nowak, two MLS all-stars from Poland, scored to lead the Fire past the Revolution before 18,517 at Chicago.

Kosecki opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a six-yarder past goalkeeper Walter Zenga.

Kosecki assisted on Nowak’s goal from 20 yards out 11 minutes later.

San Jose 2, New York/New Jersey 1--Ronald Cerritos scored in the 90th minute for the Clash, which won in a shootout before 9,492 in San Jose.
