Police Slaying
I am sickened to read the article (“Bereft Family Disputes Police Shooting Report,” Aug. 26) about Mario Paz, a 64-year-old grandfather, killed in cold blood in his own Compton home by the El Monte police SWAT team. He was shot twice in the back, his savings confiscated and his widow demeaned as a criminal. The cops thought he had marijuana. The cops thought he had a weapon. Oooops!
What separates criminals from cops? Nothing that I can determine!
P.S. Don’t ever reach for your waistband in public!

* It must be peasant season. That is rather embarrassing considering we aren’t supposed to be a feudal society. It is probably not a coincidence that police unions are staunch supporters of gun controls.
Maybe the police can find a more civilized method for making arrests in the future.
