Nation IN BRIEF / TEXAS : Judge Throws Out Bush Subpoena
A state judge ruled in Bryan, Texas, that Gov. George W. Bush does not have to testify in a lawsuit filed by a former state official who said she was fired for investigating a funeral company with ties to Bush. District Judge John Dietz said Bush appeared to have little knowledge of the events surrounding the suit and threw out a subpoena seeking to question Bush. In her lawsuit, Eliza May, former head of the Texas Funeral Service Commission, charged that she was dismissed for investigating embalming practices of Houston-based Service Corp. International.
