Police Defuse Bomb Found by Student on Grade School Campus
SANTA ROSA, Calif. — A student found a bomb Monday at an elementary school. The device was defused safely and there were no reports of injuries.
The device was found before 2:30 p.m. at Piner Elementary School, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
The student found the bomb on the far east side of the school grounds, authorities said. The student gave it to a teacher,who turned it over to the principal.
Deputies cordoned off the area where the bomb was found and defused it.
Investigators have not identified any suspects. Authorities were searching the campuses of all district schools, Supt. Rod Buchignani said.
Sheriff’s and school officials did not immediately return calls seeking comment Monday night.
