Group Sues District Over Document
An environmental watchdog group filed a lawsuit Monday against the elementary school district to obtain a draft study that allegedly shows students attending a proposed school would be exposed to high levels of the pesticide methyl bromide.
The Environmental Defense Center, which has sought the document since February, alleges that findings about excessive pesticide exposure at the site of Juan Soria School were not included in the project’s environmental impact report.
Juan Soria is a school the Oxnard Elementary School District seeks to build on the far east end of Emerson Avenue, west of Rice Avenue.
The district has argued that a draft of the document is not a public record, and therefore it was not required to release the information.
The lawsuit was filed in Ventura County Superior Court.
