Enron Dedicates New Wind-Power Project

Enron Wind Corp., a subsidiary of Enron Corp. of Houston, dedicated a wind-power project that is the first large-scale renewable-energy project built since California opened its electricity generation market in 1998. The 16.5-megawatt project near Palm Springs, called Green Power I, will supply commercial, industrial and residential customers as part of the emerging clean-power markets that have been growing in the restructuring of California’s electricity industry. Patagonia Inc., the Ventura manufacturer of outdoor clothing, has committed to buying power supplied by the nearly $25-million project. Green Power I is capable of generating enough electricity to supply 5,000 typical California homes.
