GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
In the Large Schools Division:
No. 9 Esperanza 56, Palmdale 18--Bethany Blair scored 13 points for the Aztecs, who led, 31-5, at halftime.
No. 10 Edison 56, Clovis West 42--Michelle Zylstra scored 25 points, had 13 rebounds and blocked five shots for Edison (5-3).
Ventura 91, Fountain Valley 36--Kristine Gleisberg scored 20 points and had six rebounds for Ventura in a first-round victory.
In the Lakewood Artesia tournament:
Anaheim 56, Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe 51--Dolores Cadena had 13 points and nine rebounds and Alicia Gallardo had 10 points and seven assists for Anaheim (4-3).
Pacifica 70, Alhambra Keppel 68--Pacifica (2-4) took a one-point lead when Diane Barreras made two free throws with three seconds left. Barreras led the Mariners with 28 points and nine steals. Lindsay Skeber and Dominique Valencia each added 10 points for Pacifica, which will face Artesia in the semifinals.
In the Kona (Hawaii) tournament:
Marina 56, San Diego Montgomery 34--June Okazoe had five assists and three steals for Marina (5-3). Miranda Emde led all scorers with 20 points for Marina.
In the La Puente tournament:
La Habra 43, Rowland Heights Rowland 24--Diana Fukushima scored 21 points for La Habra (4-5), and teammate Irina Petrini had eight rebounds and six points. La Habra will play San Gabriel Gabrielino in the second round Monday at 7 p.m.
In the San Clemente tournament:
No. 6 El Toro 74, Murrieta Valley 47--Giuliana Mendiola scored 40 points, hitting six three-pointers, to lead El Toro (5-1) in a pool-play game.
No. 4 Foothill 70, Cerritos 54--Chavaughn Brown scored 21 points and Kristen Mann added 17 along with 21 rebounds for Foothill (5-2) in the pool-play game.
No. 5 San Clemente 75, Dana Hills 28--Point guard Kim Buffum scored 14 points, including four three-pointers, and Megan Blackshire came off the bench to score 10 points for San Clemente.
