The city is scheduled to make a final decision on Eastbluff’s traffic woes during a special meeting Tuesday--one year after the City Council agreed to a six-month trial of temporary traffic measures there. The meeting is set for 6 p.m. in council chambers, 3300 Newport Blvd., and will be televised by Comcast Cablevision.

The city’s now-disbanded Public Works Committee decided in November 1997 to eliminate through traffic on Bison Avenue across Jamboree Road and ban left turns from northbound Jamboree onto Bison for a six-month period. The decision came after

Eastbluff residents pleaded for city help to prevent traffic from speeding through their neighborhoods. Residents of the Bluffs maintain that Eastbluff should not be allowed to have private streets when they are being paid for by all city taxpayers.

Traffic counts taken by the city showed that the number of cars flowing through Eastbluff was significantly reduced after the changes.
