Sherman Would Be So Proud

From the same part of the country that gave us “Fargo” comes a new kind of driving. It’s called Mattracks, and it converts your sport-utility car into a truly all-terrain vehicle.

All you need is about $20,000 and half an hour to install the four tank-style treads, then it’s off you go! (Although maximum speed with the treads is about 40 mph.)

The traction system was inspired by the founder’s 11-year-old son, who drew a picture of a large truck with tracks instead of tires. He showed the picture to his father and asked if he could make it. Let’s just say Dad didn’t let Junior down.

Mattracks, according to the company, is ideal for any number of vehicular activities, including ice fishing, border patrol, geophysical exploration, snow plowing--even greens keeping.

One application--potentially its most useful--is not mentioned by company officials. It would be perfect for smashing its way out of any traffic jam.
