Applications Available for Pageant Competition

The Miss San Fernando pageant, an annual competition where contestants are not judged by appearance alone, is seeking applicants.

Participating young women will be judged on public speaking skills, an interview, a short essay and professional appearance, according to the San Fernando Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event.

Applicants must be 17 to 22 years old and unmarried but do not have to be residents of San Fernando to compete in the March 13 event at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills.

Before participating, the women must attend workshops on public speaking, hair and makeup styling and modeling techniques. They must also volunteer at nonprofit agencies.

The chamber will provide contestants with business sponsors, and winners will receive scholarships. For applications, which cost $25, or more information, call the chamber at (818) 361-1184.
