Contractor Held in Fatal Bridge Collapse

Authorities have detained the building contractor of a bridge that collapsed in south-central China, killing at least 39 people, state media said. Officials investigating the collapse discovered “irregularities” in both the contracting and construction of the steel bridge built three years ago in Chongqing over the Qi River, a tributary of the Yangtze, the New China News Agency said.
