Metrolink Board Selects David Solow for Top Post

The board of directors of Metrolink on Friday unanimously selected rail transit veteran David R. Solow as executive director of the region’s commuter rail service.

Solow has been serving as interim executive director since last September when Metrolink’s board replaced longtime Executive Director Richard M. Stanger.

The change in leadership last fall followed a scathing audit that criticized the way Metrolink handled contract bids, billing, in-house training, employee records and hiring.

Solow, 46, has been with Metrolink since 1991. He had served as deputy executive officer for operations and engineering. Before joining Metrolink, he was the manager of commuter rail for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, which bought railroad rights of way that were later used by Metrolink.

The Metrolink board also selected Simi Valley Mayor Bill Davis as its new chairman and Los Angeles City Councilman Hal Bernson as vice chairman.

More than 28,000 passengers board Metrolink trains weekdays in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
