Giles Scores 30 in Concordia Victory

Josh Giles scored 30 points, including making six of eight three-point shots, for Concordia, which defeated Point Loma Nazarene, 73-62, in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Point Loma.

Giles was eight of 14 from the field overall and made eight of eight free throws.

Concordia (11-8, 1-1) made 23 of 26 free throws in the second half and 28 for 37 in the game.

Harold Hoffman made four of 13 shots from the field and six of six free throws to finish with 14 points. He also tied for the team lead with six rebounds.

Jet Quillen scored 10 for the Eagles.

B.J. Foster had 17 points and eight rebounds and Darnell Cherry had 16 points and nine rebounds for Point Loma (9-8, 0-2).

Point Loma Nazarene outrebounded Concordia, 47-38.

In another Golden State Athletic Conference game:

Cal Baptist 75, Southern California College 69--Southern California College’s Rashad Wilson’s 24 points were not enough to defeat visiting Cal Baptist. Kevin Bradley had 12 points and seven rebounds also for SCC.

Center Chris Harvey led Cal Baptist with 19 points.

In a nonconference game:

UC San Diego 101, Hope International 64--Ahmad Russ was seven for seven from the field and had 17 points to lead UC San Diego (16-2). Sam Higgins had 19 points for the Tritons.

Chris Oliver scored 22 points for Hope International (3-17).

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Concordia 66, Point Loma Nazarene 59--Concordia center Priscilla Bendik gave the Eagles the lead for good, 49-47, with a basket with seven minutes left. Guard Taryn Commins scored 20 points and Jamie Gast scored 19 for Concordia (7-7, 1-1).

Southern California College 77, Cal Baptist 53--Kelly Boeke had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Southern California College (13-6, 1-1).

Kristi Wright had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Alana Kempton had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Vanguards.

Kati Sico scored 21 for Cal Baptist (6-12, 0-2).

In a nonconference game:

College of Notre Dame 63, Chapman 60--Forward Gina Rose’s 18 points led the College of Notre Dame (9-8) over Chapman (12-4). April Abeyta led the Panthers with 12 points and center Lisa Nielson had 15 rebounds for the Panthers.
