* David F. Zucker, an executive vice president of ESPN, will leave the Walt Disney Co.-owned cable sports network next month to become president and chief executive of video-on-demand start-up Diva Systems Corp. Zucker, an eight-year veteran of ESPN, will take over the lead management role from Diva co-founders Paul M. Cook and Alan Bushell. Both will remain on the board of the Menlo Park company, with Cook serving as chairman.

* J. Peterman Co., the upscale retailer parodied on “Seinfeld,” will be allowed to operate through Feb. 12 under a $1.96-million loan from a primary creditor. Lawyers for J. Peterman sealed the deal a day after filing for Chapter 11 under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The loan will allow the company to pay its 500 employees, pay $235,000 owed to United Parcel Service and process returned and exchanged merchandise which has been backing up since the holidays. The Lexington, Ky.-based company said it would close neither its Newport Beach store nor its outlet in Camarillo.
