San Jose-based Atmel Corp. agreed to buy Motorola Inc.’s “smart”-card semiconductor business, making Atmel the No. 3 producer of chips that store information in cards used for banking and identification. Atmel didn’t disclose terms. Atmel shares rose 13 cents to close at $18.19 on Nasdaq. Motorola rose $2 to close at $2.50 on the NYSE.
