Project Together--a division of the Orange County Health Care Agency-- is looking for Villa Park residents to serve as mentors to at-risk children ages 6 through 17. Adult volunteers work at least four hours a week for a minimum of six months. Suggested activities include helping with homework, beach visits, a night at the symphony or even day trips to area theme parks using donated admission tickets. “We need volunteers to show these kids the positive side of life and that not everything is bad,” said coordinator Peggy Evans. “There are kids out there that just need a special touch with their self-esteem or their social skills.” The program serves 200 children each month countywide. Last year, volunteers donated about 38,000 hours assisting the youth--which equates to about $500,000, Evans said. Information: (714) 577-5422.
