Patterson Gives Zodiac a 1-0 Victory

Steve Patterson scored off a corner kick from Brian Engesser in the 37th minute to give the Zodiac a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Riverhawks in an A-League soccer game Friday in Wilder, Ky.

Patterson’s first touch off Engesser’s corner kick struck the cross bar, but the rebound hit goalkeeper Chris Wanamaker and rebounded back to Patterson, who slipped it into the net.

Cincinnati (6-10), which outshot the Zodiac, 9-8, nearly tied the score in the second half when J.T. Roberts got loose on a breakaway and sent a point-blank shot at goalkeeper Mike Littman, who was in position to smother the shot. Littman finished with eight saves for the Zodiac (9-7).

The game was stopped by referee Chin Asoera with about eight minutes remaining because of lightning strikes in the area.
