Boy Who Drowned at Pyramid Lake Identified
A 16-year-old boy who drowned Sunday in Pyramid Lake was identified Monday as Kevin Machado of Yakima, Wash., the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.
Kevin was swimming in the lake about 4 p.m. when he developed cramps. One witness heard his cries for help, but the boy went under before help arrived, authorities said.
There was no lifeguard on duty, but two sheriff’s deputies were in the area at the time. One deputy put on scuba gear and searched the water, to no avail. A Sheriff’s Department dive team was called about 6:30 p.m. and found the boy’s body about half an hour later.
The death was ruled accidental.
