It was a good day for a couple of Orange County longboarders in the shortboard events at the Shockwave U.S. Open Wednesday at Huntington Beach.

In the men’s division, San Clemente’s Geoff Moysa, who was seeded in the third round, won his three heats. Moysa was the 1996 longboard world champion. Moysa will compete in both the shortboard and the longboard events Thursday.

Among the women, Kim Hamrock of Huntington Beach finished first in her second- round heat to advance. Hamrock, 38, finished second among all competitors--men and women--in the 35-and-over age group in the Association of Longboard Professionals contest at the end of May at Huntington Beach. At the U.S. Open this year, there is no women’s longboard division.

On the men’s side, Orange County surfers who moved on along with Moysa are Wyatt Simmons (Huntington Beach), Scott Finn (Dana Point), Peter Labrador (Fountain Valley), David Giddings (Newport Beach) and Mike Todd (Dana Point).

The men’s seventh round starts at 7 a.m. today. The women’s third round and the longboard events start at 12:20 p.m.
