What’s happening the next few weeks:

* The Seattle Art Museum will have on view “Impressionism: Paintings Collected by European Museums” from June 12 to Aug. 29. A selection of Impressionist paintings drawn from leading European art museums, including works by Degas, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh and Cezanne. 100 University St. $7, $5 students. * The Seattle Opera will open its 1999-2000 season with a new production of “Der Freischutz (The Devil’s Bullet),” by Carl Maria von Weber, with German libretto by Friedrich Kind. The set design is by Neil Peter Jampolis. Aug. 5-21 at the Seattle Center Opera House. $33-$70. (800) 426-1619.

* The Seattle Asian Art Museum continues celebrating its Year of Japan with a new exhibition, “Modern Masters of Kyoto: Transformation of Japanese Painting Traditions, Nihonga From the Griffith and Patricia Way Collection,” which opens Aug. 19. 1400 E. * Bumbershoot, the huge arts festival that overtakes the Seattle Center each year, returns Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-6. The schedule of dozens of performers, and tickets, will be available at https://www.bumbershoot.org about July 15. Past performers have included the Indigo Girls, Zap Mama and performance artist Danny Hoch. Adult daily tickets (good any day) for Bumbershoot are $10 in advance, $14 at the gate. Two-day pass, $18. Four-day pass, $32. The festival will be kicked off Sept. 2 with a 7 p.m. concert by R.E.M. at Memorial Stadium. $28. (206) 628-0888.
