FOUNTAIN VALLEY
The Save Mile Square Park Committee obtained a temporary restraining order Tuesday against the park’s $8-million golf course expansion. The committee filed a lawsuit May 27 against the Orange County Board of Supervisors on nine grounds, including alleged violations of the California Public Resources Code, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the California Business and Professions Code. The restraining order, served by Superior Court Judge Eileen Moore, will prevent construction in the hobby triangle area until June 10, when she will consider more evidence and decide whether to issue a preliminary injunction, which could delay golf course construction for the duration of the trial.
“Finally [the Board of Supervisors is] going to hear our side of the story . . . because now it’s in a court of law where our voice is as loud as the supervisors’ voice,” committee chairman Robert Richards said.
County counsel Laurence Watson said he was confident the county will prevail. By expanding the course, the county isn’t eliminating a park, but simply changing its use, he said.
