Several shots were fired across the athletic fields at Polytechnic High School in an apparent drive-by shooting Wednesday, but no injuries were reported, authorities said.

There were no witnesses to the shooting, which occurred around 2:10 p.m., but students told police they saw a man running from the campus shortly afterward, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Tom Toutant. The school is in the 12400 block of Roscoe Boulevard.

“Somebody inside the school notified the school authorities, who notified school police,” Toutant said. “The school police said there was no panic.”

Hilda Ramirez, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District, said one bullet landed in a gymnasium, but it wasn’t clear whether anyone was inside the facility at the time.

LAUSD officials are investigating the incident, Ramirez said.
