Strathern Street Elementary to Mark 50th Anniversary
Students, teachers and administrators will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Strathern Street Elementary School on Saturday with a small fair.
The event will include carnival games, entertainment, food and raffles, said Paula Masters, the event’s co-chairwoman and a pre-kindergarten teacher at the school.
“We’re celebrating how we’ve grown and changed over the years and our impact on the community,” Masters said.
Former principals, teachers and students have been invited to the celebration. Student-created murals will depict historical events from each of the five decades.
A student chorus, with about 50 third-, fourth- and fifth-graders, will sing the new school song, “Stars of Tomorrow,” written by Helen Vines, a first and second grade teacher. A “Blast from the Past” dance will also be held during the festival.
The fair will run from noon to 4 p.m. at the school, 7939 Saint Clair Ave.
