National Semiconductor Corp. reported a loss of $40 million, or 24 cents a share, for its fiscal fourth quarter, its fifth straight quarterly loss, citing weakness in its personal computer processor business. The chip maker lost $69.3 million, or 42 cents, a year ago. The company is trying to sell its Cyrix PC processor business and said it expects to make money again in its third quarter, after the deal is completed. National Semiconductor closed up $1.81 at $22.50 on the New York Stock Exchange. The results were announced after trading.
