Employees at Tinseltown Studios have voted to join a union affiliated with the AFL-CIO. After protesters in April alleged unfair labor practices at the entertainment venue, select employees voted in a National Labor Relations Board election to join the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts, a union based in New York City. The union will represent about 30 Tinseltown employees. The Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union is also courting Tinseltown employees. At the time of the protest, Tinseltown general manager Ron Drake said that employees received an average of $1 more an hour than employees working under union contracts.
