Shields, Murray Earn Top Division II Awards

Pitcher Jamie Shields of Hart High, who helped the Indians win their first Southern Section baseball championship, was selected CIF Division II player of the year.

Shields, a junior, had an 11-1 record and hit 11 home runs.

Coach Bud Murray of Hart, who is retiring after 39 years of high school and college coaching, is the Division II coach of the year.

All-Southern Section selections from the region include Mike Jackson of Crespi and Jordan Olson of Crescenta Valley in Division I, Tim Hutting and Justin Wiley of Hart and Brian Lipman of Royal in Division II and Kevin Howard of Westlake and Tony Sulser of Calabasas in Division III.

Pitcher Tim Thompson of Grace Brethren was selected player of the year in Division VI and Coach Aaron Marcarelli of Grace Brethren is coach of the year.

In softball, pitcher Maureen LeCocq of Chaminade, who helped the Eagles win their first championship, was selected player of the year in Division IV.

All-Southern Section softball selections include Meredith Cervenka of Crescenta Valley, Jodie Cox and Kellie Cox of Quartz Hill, Ashlie D’Errico of Highland and Sheridan Fowler of Thousand Oaks in Division I, Tracie Hall of Simi Valley, Julie Watson of Saugus and Emma Stevens of Hueneme in Division II and Oli Keohohou and Cindy Muran of Newbury Park in Division III.

In boys’ volleyball, middle blocker Cam Dickson and outside hitter Ryan Moberly of Royal were selected to the Division I team and outside hitter and setter Richard Nelson of Alemany was chosen to the Division II team.

Setter Ty Tramblie of Newport Harbor, who has signed with Cal State Northridge, was selected Division I player of the year.
