Hostage Standoff Ends With 1 Dead

A two-day hostage standoff at a Pennsylvania’s mental hospital ended when a fired nurse killed one of his captives and wounded the other. After 48 hours of negotiations proved fruitless, Norristown Police Capt. Thomas LaCrosse ordered officers to break a window at 8:45 a.m. The gunman, Dennis Czajkowski, began firing his .44-caliber revolver, killing Carol Kepner, 54, and wounding Maria Jordan, 37, before being subdued.
